Newcastle United Signs Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth

Newcastle United has officially announced the acquisition of defender Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, marking their first signing of the summer. The 25-year-old will join Newcastle on July 1, following the expiration of his contract with Bournemouth.

Kelly, known for his versatility as both a left-back and center-half, has committed to a five-year deal with Newcastle and will don the number 25 shirt. Expressing his excitement about the move, Kelly said, “It’s amazing to be coming here. I know how big the club is and how much it means to all the fans, and I just want to hit the ground running and get to work. It’s a significant move for me and my family, but I think the city of Newcastle is fantastic, with a great blend of city life and countryside.”

Kelly also mentioned his familiarity with Newcastle’s head coach Eddie Howe, who initially signed him for Bournemouth. This existing relationship played a role in his decision to join Newcastle. “It wasn’t a hard decision for me to come here. Working with the gaffer previously, I know what he wants from his players and how he wants his players to play. I believe what I can bring just makes sense. I can’t wait to get started,” Kelly added.

Eddie Howe, now Newcastle’s head coach, expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with Kelly. “I’m really pleased to have secured Lloyd’s signature,” Howe said. “He’s proven himself at Premier League level and will be a great addition as we prepare for the new season. Lloyd brings versatility and leadership qualities that will make him a great fit within our squad and someone our supporters will quickly take to.”

Kelly’s five-year tenure at Bournemouth, highlighted by his Premier League experience and leadership on the field, aligns well with Newcastle’s ambitions. Howe emphasized Kelly’s potential for further development, noting, “Lloyd is at an age where he can still develop. He has a lot of potential and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

This strategic signing reflects Newcastle United’s commitment to strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming season, and fans eagerly anticipate Kelly’s contributions on the field.
