Erik ten Hag Speaks Out on Manchester United’s Season and Future Plans

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is optimistic about his continued role next season.

In an in-depth interview with Voetbal International, Ten Hag shared, “INEOS has expressed their desire to overhaul everything and build anew with me. This was communicated directly to me.”

Reflecting on the season’s challenges, Ten Hag emphasized the toll that injuries have taken on United’s performance. “Recently, I had to use my 15th different centre-back pairing of the season. We’ve had 33 different defensive setups this year,” he lamented.

The manager noted the significant setbacks caused by injuries to key players like Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund, which disrupted the team’s consistency.

Ten Hag also discussed the unrealistic expectations often placed on his squad. “Manchester United last won the league in 2013, which was 11 years ago. Yet, there’s a constant expectation for us to win every game and compete at the top. The club isn’t in a position to meet those demands right now.”

He highlighted the external pressures and media scrutiny, stating, “English pundits aim to make a mark and prove their worth, and Manchester United often becomes an easy target for criticism.”

Despite these obstacles, Ten Hag is focused on the future. “INEOS plans to make significant changes within the club, and some projects have already commenced. Carrington will be completely revamped, and a new training facility will be built.”

He also underlined the importance of bolstering the squad, saying, “We need to bring in an additional striker this summer. Furthermore, acquiring another central midfielder and a replacement for Varane will significantly improve our prospects.”

Ten Hag’s determination is evident: “Let’s be clear. This season has been tough. It’s been challenging. But despite everything, we are set to play in an FA Cup Final.”

There were no signs in the interview that Ten Hag is contemplating an exit from the club after today’s final, indicating his commitment to Manchester United’s future.
