Manchester City Joins the Race for AS Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche

AS Monaco faces a challenging task in retaining their star player, Maghnes Akliouche, as interest from several top European clubs grows. According to Nice-Matin, Manchester City, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid have now joined Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of the 22-year-old French U21 international.

Akliouche has been a standout performer for Monaco, contributing significantly to their second-place finish in Ligue 1 and their return to the UEFA Champions League. Despite the club’s strong desire to keep him, his impressive performances have made him a target for some of Europe’s elite teams. L’Équipe has previously linked him with PSG, and this additional interest complicates Monaco’s efforts to hold onto their prized asset.

Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro emphasized the club’s intention to keep Akliouche for at least another season, highlighting the benefits of continued development at the club. “The priority is to keep Maghnes,” Scuro said in a roundtable interview with Get French Football News. “There is Champions League in front of us, and one more season can also be good for his development. But I don’t control everyone’s decisions. Things may change in the market depending on players’ desires, but the plan is to keep Maghnes for at least one more season at Monaco.”

Despite Scuro’s confidence, the growing interest from Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus complicates Monaco’s plans. Akliouche, whose contract runs until 2026, is seen as a valuable addition by these clubs, making his retention at Stade Louis II increasingly uncertain.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Monaco will need to navigate these challenges carefully to maintain their squad’s core strength for their Champions League campaign. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether they can resist the advances of some of Europe’s biggest clubs and keep Akliouche for another season.
